Dog sweater?

Looking for a crochet pattern for a dog sweater. All I can find are knits, which I don't know how to do.

I'm intermediate at crocheting, and it's just a small dog. Does anyone know where I can find a good (easily readable) pattern? Or can recommend any patterns they've tried?

Thanks!
Shiv

Soft Christmas Tree Ornaments

I've been really slow at finishing my projects lately, but I did finish one project, which is a set of kid-friendly Christmas ornaments. Well, they're baby friendly too, as long as you don't add buttons! I've added a few buttons to some of mine because my kids are past the eating buttons stage. I like these because my 2 year old can carry the ornaments around and they don't break when she drops them.

#94 Heat Wave by Richard Castle

Matthew Starr is a wealthy businessman who lives with his pretty young wife and son in an apartment in New York City that could double as a fine art museum. That is, until he plunges six stories to his death. As Detective Nikki Heat inspects his murder, she discovers that there was much more to Matthew Starr than the public perceived, and that many of the people connected to him had just as many secrets. To make things more complicated, Nikki has to solve this mystery while playing babysitter to Jameson Rook, a Pulitzer winning reporter who’s writing an article on Nikki, and insists on being part of every moment of the investigation.

You need to give ABC credit for the way they’ve been handling their TV show Castle, which focuses on a New York Times Bestselling author who decides to base a series of books off of a New York City police detective, Kate Beckett (sound familiar?). During the first season, we watched as Castle wrote his first novel based on Beckett, called Heat Wave, and ABC has given us a treat by actually releasing this slim novel, therefore showing us what the fuss was all about. Fans will quickly find parallels to the television show, not only between Heat and Beckett, and Castle and Rook, but for every major (and a couple memorable minor) character in the television show with the exception of Alexis. As a result, half of the fun is pointing out these similarities, which occur not only with characters, but also occasionally in dialogue and situation. I suspect that Heat Wave will be the most appealing to existing fans of the television show, but newcomers may have a harder time getting into it.

Heat Wave reads like an extended episode from season one, and as a result it has many of its strengths and weaknesses. The best part of Castle has always been in its characters, especially in the interaction between its two leads, and the same goes for Heat Wave. It’s presented a little differently here, as the story is mainly told from Nikki’s (aka Beckett’s) perspective and Rook (Castle) takes a backseat. Whereas in the TV show we get to see a lot of Castle’s home life, here we get to see Nikki’s reflections on her mother’s murder, and her devotion to her job. There’s also a fair amount of wish fulfillment in Heat Wave, both for Castle and the fans who’d like to see the sexual tension between Castle and Beckett taken to the next level. Heat Wave’s biggest weakness is the mystery itself is a bit predictable (something I noticed occasionally with season one of the TV show, although season two has improved on this greatly). Although there are a few twists and turns along the way as we discover the deep dark secrets that out characters’ hold, I wasn’t too far into the book before I had singled out a certain character as the possible baddie, and as the book continued it became more and more obvious that they were the culprit.

Heat Wave is a very fun read that is sure to please fans of the television show Castle. Much like the show, we have a fun story, and great interaction between the characters. Unlike the show, we get to see more of who Beckett really is, which made it a satisfying read.

Rating: four stars
Length: 198 pages
Source: borrowed from a friend
Similar Books: Er… well Nikki reminded me a lot of Murphy from the Dresden Files. Give me a break, I don’t read that much of this genre!
Other books I've read by this author: this is my first. I hope ABC decides to publish at least one a season form now on!

Does anyone, by any chance, have some Homespun Baby yarn lying around in Soft Violet that they'd be willing to part with? Long story short, I'm about 3/4 of the way through a blanket and was using the Homespun Baby that someone gifted me. Needed more and come to find out that it's discontinued! If anyone can help, I'd be thrilled! Thanks!

Big Girls Burlesque Show!

So tonight (Saturday) in Reno, there's a plus sized fashion show and burlesque show, with belly dancers and everything. I'm so excited! (if you're in the area, you should check it out! It's at the Tree House Lounge behind the Underground on 4th st) I am going to take tonnnns of pics!

They're going to be doing a rockabilly theme. I want to dress the part and stuff. I know what I'm earing, and I'm a Mary Kay consultant so makeup is no issue but the real problem is my hair. I'm going to post a picture of it and you tell me what rockabilly style I should rock!

Christmas Gift

I made this for a friend for Christmas this year.

I wanted it to have a very crude, children's drawing look to it. It makes me think of a 3D blueprint.
I'm quite pleased with the way it turned out.

It's made from a cardboard gift box covered in fleece with both machine-sewn and hand-sewn details.

Hey y'all. Since I strongly prefer to bra shop in person, I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good specialty bra store in the DC metro area? I live in Reston and work in Chantilly so anywhere in that vicinity would be awesome too. Thanks!

68. The Wealthy Barber - David Chilton

68. The Wealthy Barbder - David Chilton - 224 pages - (6.5/10)

Finances. Fascinating. Nope, not really.

This is a book written in 1998 about sound financial investment and planning. My husband and I are attempting to become Responsible Adults (tm) and bought it because it had great reviews. The book is a bit interesting in that, instead of being the traditional, lecture-based book, it's told as a mediocre novel--a group of four friends and siblings go and get financial advice from their barber because he made himself very wealthy through sound investment, despite a meagre salary.

As someone who knew absolutely nothing about finances, it was a good enough starting point. I didn't know the difference between mutual and index funds, and it got me to think about how to plan for retirement. The main bit of advice I took from it is to invest 10% of your income for long-term growth, which is pretty sound advice, I think. Other than that, though, a lot of the information is either out of date or doesn't apply to me, an American who just moved to the UK. So, for that, I do not recommend it. We're no longer in an economic boom. It's unrealistic to get 15% returns from mutual funds. You can't get loans from banks very easily.

Discussion:

Does anyone know any good, easy-to-follow investment books targeted towards the UK and those who make an average wage? We have no debt and a bit of savings and we're trying to let that savings grow so we can have a downpayment for a flat.

Steampunk Night OOTD

My friend took me to a club with Friday night Decadence themes. This week was steampunk, which, while there were so many beautiful clothes, is highly impractical for dancing with all the layers and buckles and corsets. We did it anyway. The hair didn't last long; came down for headbanging.
Full steam ahead! )Hat and jacket )

One set down..

So I completed one set of dishcloths! Well, thats if I decide to go three a set. I might up it to four, but that means buying more yarn.. so we shall see. I was so proud of myself because I changed the rows from 29 stiches to 25 stiches and used a 4.5 hook rather than a 5.5 hook, which means that I was able to get a whole cloth out of a 1.5 oz skein. (Just barely too, there'd be about one yard of yarn left over. :P) And they are decent size too, eight and half by eight and a half inches.

I think the colors are so beautiful. I'd like to buy more of this yarn and make myself a skarf or something. :D

Hello everyone,
Started crochet for the first time last night with a Readers Digest book showing all the steps. The commentary and pictures are not enormously helpful - or maybe I just need to go sit in the D'oh! corner for a bit.

Managed a chain just fine so progressed to double crochet. All was ok and fairly even until I realised that I was losing stitches (sorry, loops? I'm a knitter normally) at each end - now have a pyramid shape, rather than a square, oh dear.

Have revisited the instructions on how to turn but I just don't get it. Have looked online and I'm still perplexed.
Can anyone shed any light on this or point me to a site that is excruciatingly clear, I'd be grateful. I feel like a moron. Many thanks!

What are you ladies making the men in your life for the holidays?

I would like to make something for my boyfriend, but I am stumped this year! :(

EDIT: If there are any males or transgendered or genderqueer folk, etc. please feel free to answer. Also "men in your life" does NOT necessarily mean your boyfriend or husband. It means ANY male in your life - fathers, brother, grandfathers, friends, etc.
